As a platform Cheese Gang wants to share the Gang's secret wisdom. To be honest we learn new things about cheese every day and we can’t wait to share that with you. Let us introduce you to the Halloumi cheese. I personally got in touch with it for the first time when the man from my favorite kebab-place asked me if I want some extra cheese. Whenever I get asked that question I have to answer: β€žYes indeed brother.β€œ Here you normally get some fried halloumi that stands out because of the salty taste and its surprising squeakiness while chewing.

But let’s dive into the world of Halloumi. This banging semi-hard cheese is originated in Cyprus, which is the third biggest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Its original recipe consists of sheep’s and goat’s milk. Some recipes are also with dried or fresh mint. People have been enjoying this tasty cheese for over 500 years, according to a Venetian document.

What makes this cheese so special? Well, you can say this cheese has an OG characteristic. Even under most heated circumstances, this guy from Cyprus will not have a meltdown. You can fry it, grill it, cook it or even steam it and it still stays in shape. And that means you can use it in many different ways in your kitchen. You can find some crazy ways to cook your Halloumi in our Magazine section - check it here!

There is industrial Halloumi cheese that comes in blocks and also the handcrafted high-quality version which you can identify by its shape. It mostly looks like a folded cheese patty that has the shape of a chicken breast.

Why is it so nice for Vegetarians? Most of the Halloumi cheeses are made with non-animal rennet which makes them vegetarian friendly. Also, its richness and texture make it perfect as a meat alternative. Because of its special way of production and its vacuum package you can just buy a bunch and store them for a good year.

How to combine? There are so many great things to combine Halloumi with. Honestly, the list is endless but let’s name a few: Mint, Chili, Watermelon, Honey, Peach, Pomegranate, Lamb, Beef, Chorizo, and many more. We can happily recommend you to find more crazy combinations with the Gangs choice, an award-winning, handmade Halloumi from Cyprus ;)
